Copernicus News: Plagiarism Software, IAPCO Membership, 10 Years OA

Dear DEI Irawan,
dear colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to announce an anniversary and two recent
achievements of Copernicus today: (1) the introduction of Plagiarism
Software, (2) our acceptance as a member of IAPCO, and (3) our 10 year
anniversary in Open Access Publishing.

1. Plagiarism Software
Each manuscript submitted to journals published by Copernicus is from now
on checked against the iThenticate database. This database contains about
30 million documents from scientific journals, conference proceedings, and
books from all main publishers in the field of STM (Science, Techniques,
Medicine). Furthermore, the database indexes billions of web pages. If
significant similarities are detected, the editors will receive a
   Similarity Report.

2. IAPCO Membership
We are very proud to be chosen to become an IAPCO member. This
International Association for Professional Congress Organizers
(http://www.iapco.org/) is the most important association for conference
organizers, with 100 members in 35 countries. Becoming a member requires a
successful certification and evaluation of all services like abstract and
programme organization, registration process, local organizing,
accounting, budgeting, social responsibility, strategies and mission
statements. Only four other German PCOs have been awarded IAPCO
   certification.

3. 10 Years Open Access Publishing
This fall, Copernicus and the European Geosciences Union (EGU) celebrate
10 years of interactive open access publishing. Beginning in 2001, the
collaboration of great and very active EGU scientists as well as
Copernicus’ publishing services have resulted in a number of highly
ranked, well-established journals in various fields. Today, these and many
other journals at Copernicus from various scientific associations and
initiatives successfully demonstrate the advantages and the sustainability
of the open access publication model.

We heartily thank and congratulate all our partners and colleagues for
their cooperation and achievements and we are very much look forward to
continuing this collaboration.

Best wishes,
Martin Rasmussen
Managing Director
